Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, dismissing rumours of any rift between them.
Speaking on Tuesday during an event marking Kwankwaso’s 69th birthday, Governor Yusuf said those attempting to create discord between him and his political mentor would not succeed.
“Those within and outside trying to create a quarrel between me and our leader, Engineer Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will not succeed,” Yusuf said.

“We will continue to follow the legacy and principles of the Kwankwasiyya movement because Kwankwaso is a God-given leader,” he added.
The governor described Kwankwaso as a visionary leader whose guidance continues to shape Kano’s progress, praying for his long life and continued wisdom.
Yusuf’s remarks come amid speculations of a strained relationship following the emergence of a group known as “Abba Tsaya da Kafarka” (Abba Stand on Your Feet), allegedly led by former government officials, Dr. Baffa Bichi and Alhaji Salisu Digol.
The group was reportedly advocating greater autonomy for Governor Yusuf’s administration, a move seen by many as a challenge to Kwankwaso’s influence.
However, the governor’s latest comments appear to have put the rumours to rest, reaffirming his loyalty to Kwankwaso and his commitment to the ideals of the Kwankwasiyya movement that propelled the NNPP to power in Kano State.
