The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting gender equality within the maritime sector. Speaking at a recent event, the Managing Director of the NPA emphasized the organization’s dedication to creating an inclusive work environment that empowers women and ensures equal opportunities for all employees.
The MD noted that while the maritime industry has traditionally been male-dominated, efforts are being made to bridge the gender gap through targeted policies, capacity-building programs, and leadership development initiatives. She highlighted the NPA’s ongoing efforts to support women in leadership roles and encourage their participation in decision-making processes.

As part of its gender equality drive, the NPA is working on policies that foster a supportive workplace for women, including mentorship programs, career advancement opportunities, and measures to eliminate workplace discrimination. The MD also stressed the importance of collaboration with stakeholders to promote gender inclusivity across the industry.
The commitment to gender equality aligns with global efforts to create a more balanced and diverse workforce in maritime operations. Industry experts have often pointed out that increased female participation brings fresh perspectives and contributes to sustainable growth.
With these initiatives, the NPA aims to set a precedent for gender inclusion within Nigeria’s maritime sector, ensuring that women have equal access to opportunities and can thrive in their careers.
