Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has announced his willingness to testify on behalf of Nigeria in the $2.3 billion disputed Mambilla power contract involving former Minister of Power and Steel, Olu Agunloye.
The disagreement between Sunrise Power and Nigeria has reached the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris, France, with the company alleging a breach of contract.
Sunrise Power claims it was granted a $6 billion contract in May 2003 by the government during Obasanjo’s presidency.

The company asserts that the Federal Government of Nigeria repudiated the agreement, leading to a compensation claim of $2.3 billion. Sunrise Power contends it had already invested significant sums in financial and legal consultants before the contract was terminated.
In response, the Nigerian government is countering with allegations of fraud and corruption involving public officials in the contract award.
Expressing his commitment to supporting Nigeria’s position, Obasanjo, in a letter to the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice Lateef Fagbemi, offered to testify “in any form” regarding the dispute.
The former President’s involvement adds a significant dimension to the legal proceedings, shedding light on the intricacies of the Mambilla power contract saga.
