InfoStride News reports that the Ogun State Government, along with the Federal Ministry of Aviation and various stakeholders, is set to convene this week to discuss the imminent concession of the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport.
Situated in the Iperu-Ilishan axis of the state, the airport is nearing completion, with aircraft already making landings at the location. Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun shared insights during a recent interview on a Channels TV program, revealing that the state government’s efforts to recover all expenses incurred on the airport would commence with the initiation of the concession agreement.
Governor Abiodun emphasized the high-quality facilities present at the airport, leading to numerous unsolicited concession offers from interested parties. He highlighted the extended time frame for returns on airport investments, noting that the decision to build the airport was a strategic move to mitigate risks. Abiodun expressed satisfaction that the investment had already yielded positive outcomes, stating, “Our money has worked. We invested in building this airport to de-risk it because we realized that if we had gone ahead and advertised for others to come and build this airport for us, we probably would only have started building it at the end of our second term. So, we decided to bite the bullet. We invested. We have built that airport.”

The Governor’s remarks underscore the foresight behind the state government’s decision to independently invest in the airport’s construction rather than relying on external entities. The acknowledgment of unsolicited concession offers signifies the attractiveness of the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport to potential investors. Abiodun’s commitment to recouping the state’s expenses through a concession agreement aligns with prudent financial management practices.
As the meeting with stakeholders approaches, the collaborative efforts of the Ogun State Government and the Federal Ministry of Aviation indicate a comprehensive approach to the concession process. The inclusion of various perspectives and expertise from stakeholders reflects a commitment to ensuring a successful and mutually beneficial agreement.
The strategic location of the airport in the Iperu-Ilishan axis positions it as a key transportation hub with the potential to drive economic growth in the region. The completion of the airport and the subsequent concession agreement are essential steps towards unlocking its full economic potential.
InfoStride News will continue to monitor and report on developments related to the Gateway Agro-Cargo International Airport concession, providing updates on the outcomes of the upcoming meeting and any subsequent advancements in the project.
