The Ogun State Government has announced the commencement of self-test kit that will enable people to carry out HIV test by themselves at their convenience.

The HIV self-testing kits were unveiled by the wife of the Ogun State Governor, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun.
While speaking the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Coker explained that the HIV self-testing will allow persons who wants to know their HIV status to collects a portion of their blood personally and performs test in their closet and get results.
The Commissioner however said that the HIV self-testing result is however not fdoes not definitive diagnosis, as it is only a test for the presence of HIV-1/2 antibodies or HIV1 p24 antigen.
She further stated that the unveiling of the self-testing kit is the first of it’s kind in Nigeria and have as well been introduced in some African countries like South-Africa, Zimbabwe, and Malawi.
