The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Oyo State has dismissed claims by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that some of its members recently defected to the PDP.
The SDP refuted the allegations, insisting that none of its members had joined the PDP.
The PDP had earlier claimed that the majority of SDP members in Oluyole Local Government Area defected to its fold over the weekend, allegedly led by one Mr. Olusina Ogunsola.

Reacting to the development, the SDP, through its Oluyole Local Government Chairman, Ganiyu Lawal, and Secretary, Saheed Adewale Adetunji, declared that Ogunsola is not a member of the SDP.
In a statement issued on Monday and made available to the Media in Ibadan, the party maintained that its structure in the local government remains intact and unaffected.
The statement read:
“It has come to our notice that one Mr. Ogunsola claimed to have led some of our members in SDP Oluyole Local Government to the PDP.
“We want the general public to know that SDP Oluyole is intact. None of our members left the party in SDP Oluyole Local Government.
Those names mentioned in the news are not our members; they left the party before the 2023 general election.
It is no longer news that the SDP gubernatorial candidate declared support for the PDP candidate, Gov. Oluseyi Makinde, which led to his defection to the PDP before the last general election.
“For Mr. Ogunsola to claim that he led our members to the PDP shows he knows nothing about Oluyole politics and is at the mercy of political traders.
We advise him to watch his political movements and seek proper guidance before falling into the hands of political parasites.”
The SDP further urged the PDP to refrain from spreading false information, stating:
“We are using this medium to inform the general public that none of our members has defected to the PDP.
We also want to advise the PDP to stop spreading fake news that SDP members have joined the PDP.”
