The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed deep satisfaction with the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal, which unanimously reaffirmed the nomination of Asue Ighodalo as its candidate for the upcoming September 2024 Edo State governorship election.
The court’s decision has been hailed by the party as a significant triumph for democracy and the rule of law, standing as a rebuke to anti-democratic elements attempting to undermine the will of the people of Edo State.
In a statement released on Monday by Debo Ologunagba, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, the party celebrated the judgement, which it described as a definitive endorsement of the integrity and transparency of the PDP’s nomination process.

The Court of Appeal’s ruling, Ologunagba noted, effectively silences critics and detractors within the All Progressives Congress (APC) who have been rattled by Ighodalo’s growing popularity and the widespread support he has garnered across the state.
“The Appeal Court judgement once again validates the credibility of the PDP’s nomination process, which resulted in the emergence of Asue Ighodalo as our candidate,” Ologunagba stated.
He continued by pointing out that the ruling discredits the “purveyors of lies and falsehood” within the APC, who, he claimed, are increasingly disoriented and frustrated by Ighodalo’s rising acceptance among the people of Edo State, including several key figures within the APC who have publicly declared their support for the PDP candidate.
The PDP spokesperson highlighted the spontaneous celebrations that erupted across Edo State following the news of the court’s decision, describing it as a clear indicator of the overwhelming support that Ighodalo enjoys among the electorate.
This widespread jubilation, Ologunagba argued, is a strong signal of the sweeping victory that awaits Ighodalo at the polls.
He noted that Ighodalo’s candidacy embodies the collective aspirations and vision of the people of Edo State, positioning him as the preferred choice to lead the state into a new era of progress and development.
Ologunagba did not mince words in his assessment of the APC’s prospects in the forthcoming election, urging the party and its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, along with their propaganda machinery led by former governor Adams Oshiomhole, to accept the reality of the impending defeat that awaits them.
“The APC, its candidate, Monday Okpebholo, and his propaganda team, led by Adams Oshiomhole, should read the handwriting on the wall and come to terms with the fact of the crushing defeat that awaits them at the poll,” he declared.
He further asserted that the people of Edo State have already made up their minds regarding their next governor, and are resolutely behind Asue Ighodalo.
According to Ologunagba, no amount of propaganda, lies, or manipulative tactics from the APC will be sufficient to sway the electorate, who are disillusioned with what he described as the APC’s “empty, purposeless, and uninspiring” candidate, who, he claims, has little to offer in terms of leadership and vision for the state.
The PDP’s confidence in Ighodalo’s candidacy is rooted not only in his popularity but also in the substance of his campaign manifesto, which has resonated strongly with voters.
The party has consistently highlighted Ighodalo’s commitment to addressing the key challenges facing Edo State, including economic revitalisation, infrastructure development, and improved social services.
His track record and his detailed plans for the state have been central to his appeal, distinguishing him from his opponents.
As the election date approaches, the PDP has ramped up its efforts to consolidate support across Edo State, with party leaders and members working tirelessly to ensure a resounding victory.
The Appeal Court’s judgement is seen as a significant boost to these efforts, reinforcing the legitimacy of Ighodalo’s candidacy and energising the party’s base.
In conclusion, the PDP’s statement not only celebrates the court’s ruling but also serves as a rallying cry for all supporters to remain steadfast in their commitment to securing a decisive win for Asue Ighodalo in the forthcoming election.
The party remains confident that with the backing of the people and the validation from the judiciary, Ighodalo is poised to lead Edo State towards a brighter future, marked by progress, unity, and sustainable development.
