A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kola Ologbondiyan, has appealed to Nigerians to allow the party to move beyond its internal disputes.
Ologbondiyan’s remarks, made on Wednesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, came in response to the ongoing rift between PDP’s former presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.
The former PDP National Publicity Secretary stressed that the party is bigger than individual factions and urged Atiku and Wike to reconcile for the collective good of the party.

“The PDP is larger than two individuals. It is a party of millions of people, and we cannot permanently reduce it to the level of what one side or the other is saying,” Ologbondiyan said.
“I look forward to the day when the PDP will be allowed to breathe without the issue of Atiku Abubakar or Nyesom Wike.”
The PDP has been grappling with internal challenges stemming from the 2023 presidential election. The fallout saw Wike forming the G-5 Integrity Group, consisting of four former governors and one serving governor, who opposed Atiku’s candidacy.
The group lent support to President Bola Tinubu and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) during the election.
Ologbondiyan called for unity, highlighting the need for the party to focus on its future rather than remain divided along factional lines.
“What of those who don’t have sides and have moved beyond the election and the 2023 convention?” he asked.
The PDP chieftain expressed optimism that peace could return to the party if both factions set aside their differences for the greater good.
