A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Bode George, has criticised a faction within the party over what he described as selfish behaviour, factionalism, and “existential imbecility” as preparations intensify for the party’s national convention in Ibadan.
George made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on Arise Television, monitored by newsmen, where he reacted to calls from some party members seeking to suspend the convention or install a caretaker committee.
He dismissed such proposals as unnecessary and unconstitutional, insisting that the party must proceed with its planned national convention.

“You know, in this country it amazes me the way people roll around purely for their selfish ends, saying ‘I am this or that.’ That’s quite something,” he said.
“So what has he done? Telling us on the eve of the convention that we should go and form a caretaker committee. I totally disagree with him.”
George reaffirmed that the PDP’s core leadership structure remains intact, adding that most members of the National Working Committee, NWC, support the convention scheduled for November 15 and 16.
The PDP elder statesman accused some individuals of engaging in reckless conduct that dishonours the legacy of the party’s founding leaders.
Despite internal disputes, he maintained that the PDP remains united and committed to strengthening its democratic institutions as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
