A founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, has reaffirmed his commitment to the party, declaring that he will not defect despite its internal challenges.
Lamido made the statement on Saturday during a PDP stakeholders’ meeting in Dutse, Jigawa State, where party leaders gathered to deliberate on the party’s future amid internal disagreements and rising defections.
He criticised politicians who have exited the PDP to align with smaller parties, insisting that abandoning the party is not a solution to its problems.

“PDP is my political home. It may have problems, but it remains my home. I will not abandon it for another party,” he said.
The former governor likened defection to deserting one’s family in difficult times.
“Leaving your home because it has challenges is not the solution,” he added.
Lamido also alleged that some defectors are attempting to dominate smaller political platforms, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC), warning that such actions could undermine political integrity.
“They left their big home and now want to take over smaller parties built by others,” he said.
He stressed the need for internal reforms within the PDP, urging members to remain committed and work collectively to rebuild the party.
According to him, unity and dedication would help restore the party’s strength and credibility ahead of future elections.
Lamido further advised party loyalists to revalidate their membership and ensure they are properly registered to vote ahead of the 2027 general elections.
