The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially launched its campaign ahead of the August 16, 2025, by-election to fill the vacant Ganye State Constituency seat in the Adamawa State House of Assembly.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Hon. Abdulkadir Musa, who represented the constituency until his passing last year.
He was a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served as the deputy minority leader in the House.

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led the PDP’s charge on Saturday in Ganye, where he formally declared the campaign open and endorsed the party’s candidate, Mohammed Joda. Addressing a crowd of party faithful and supporters, Governor Fintiri called on the people of Ganye to vote for competence and continuity in governance.
“No society can develop when decisions are driven by religious or ethnic considerations,” Fintiri said, warning against voting based on sentiment. “Let us support a candidate who can consolidate on the progress we have made.”
PDP State Chairman, Tahir Shehu, also spoke at the campaign rally, highlighting the achievements of the PDP-led government in Adamawa State. He urged voters to support the PDP candidate, promising that Joda would bring effective representation to the people of Ganye.
In his own remarks, the PDP flag bearer, Mohammed Joda, thanked the party leadership for trusting him with the ticket and pledged to serve with integrity if elected.
“I am humbled by this opportunity and ready to work tirelessly for the good people of Ganye,” he said.
As of Saturday afternoon, no formidable challenger had emerged from the opposition. The APC, which previously held the seat, remains in disarray, with internal divisions preventing the emergence of a consensus candidate for the by-election.
Political observers say the PDP stands a strong chance of reclaiming the seat due to the APC’s unresolved factional crisis in the constituency. Should the APC fail to field a unifying candidate, it would mark a significant political setback, especially given that the late Abdulkadir Musa held a prominent role in the state assembly.
The by-election in Ganye is expected to serve as a litmus test of party strength ahead of future contests in Adamawa State.
