Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may convene in Abuja on Sunday to deliberate on the way forward, following a fresh wave of defections that has rocked the main opposition party in recent weeks.
InfoStride News reports that the past two weeks have been particularly challenging for the PDP, as several key members have dumped the party for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The latest round of defections began on April 23, when Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, and the entire PDP structure in the state, declared their allegiance to the APC.

Their defection came just days after a PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Ibadan, Oyo State, where the governors expressed openness to coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections. However, they distanced themselves from the coalition being championed by former presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
In a similar development, all three PDP Senators from Kebbi State are reportedly on the verge of defecting to the APC.
Sources familiar with the development disclosed that, barring any last-minute changes, the emergency meeting is scheduled to hold at the Bauchi State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja.
The meeting is also expected to address key issues ahead of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting scheduled for May 27.
