The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State has dismissed speculations that former Speakers of the State House of Assembly who visited Governor Alex Otti were planning to defect to the Labour Party (LP).
Members of the Conference of Former Speakers of Abia State House of Assembly visited Governor Alex Otti on Friday, where they endorsed his performance in office.
The former Speakers, including the immediate past Deputy Governor, Ude Oko Chukwu, and two other former Speakers of the PDP extraction, pledged their support to Governor Alex Otti and accompanied him to inspect ongoing road projects in Aba.

The visit sparked speculations in the state that it could be a prelude to their defection to the Labour Party.
However, the PDP Vice Chairman and Acting Publicity Secretary, Abraham Amah, dispelled these rumors in a press statement on Sunday.
Amah clarified that the PDP members who were part of the visit were not planning to defect to the Labour Party.
He emphasized that the visit by the former Speakers, who are members of a non-partisan organization, was made in their personal capacities and did not represent the views of the PDP.
Amah reassured PDP members and supporters that the party remains “intact and unshakable,” despite attempts by some individuals to spread speculation about its unity.
He pointed out that members of the Conference, which includes members of the APC, had made a similar visit to a PDP Governor a few weeks ago.
The PDP in Abia State emphasized its commitment to upholding the rights of its members to freedom of association and urged against reading too much into the visit by the former Speakers.
