The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo State has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over the death of a young man, Good Emiju, who was allegedly knocked down by the governor’s convoy.
The opposition party claimed that the incident occurred at Oka-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, during Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour of communities in the council.
In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, the PDP faulted the governor’s silence on the matter and expressed concern over what it described as the hurried burial of the deceased.

The party demanded a transparent explanation from the state government, describing the continued silence as unacceptable, insensitive and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family.
According to the PDP, the victim was initially rushed to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical personnel allegedly could not adequately manage the situation due to the poor state of the facility. He was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was pronounced dead.
“To date, no official statement has been issued to inform the general public, clarify the facts surrounding the incident, or explain the circumstances under which a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy,” the statement said.
However, Governor Aiyedatiwa has denied any involvement of his convoy in the incident.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, the governor said the claims were false, stressing that his convoy was not involved in any accident during the thank-you tour.
“It is pertinent and necessary to categorically clarify that the Governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, or on any day since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 local government areas of the state,” the statement added.
