The National Working Committee, NWC, of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has nullified the purported state congress in Cross River and approved the constitution of a Caretaker Committee to run the party’s affairs in the state.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba.
According to Ologunagba, the decision was taken in line with the provisions of the PDP Constitution (as amended in 2017).

He explained that although the National Chairman, Umar Damagum, had informed the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on September 25 of the postponement of congresses in Cross River, Plateau, and Kebbi States, a separate letter from the PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, indicated that the Cross River congress would still hold on September 27.
The party clarified that while some individuals gathered in Calabar on Saturday, no valid congress actually took place in the state.
Ologunagba noted that the decision to set up a Caretaker Committee became necessary following the expiration of the four-year tenure of the Cross River State Executive Committee.
“The Caretaker Committee is to manage the affairs of the Party in Cross River State from Wednesday, October 1, 2025, for a period not exceeding three months, or until such a time a new State Executive Committee is elected,” the statement read.
The members of the committee are: Bassey Eko Ewa (Chairman), Bassey Joseph (Acting Secretary), Joe Ekpe Edet, Udie Mike, Lynne Bassey, Etim Okon, Ankot Cohbom, Ofana Raphael Odo, Onun Inyang Unoh, Ebaye Akunjom, Godswill Obindim, Edem Ekong, Raymond Abo, Moses Bisuakefe, Agabi Dominic Oko, Walter Nandi Esom, Ekpo Asuquo, and Victor Erig Takon.
The NWC urged all leaders, stakeholders, and members of the PDP in Cross River to remain united and continue to work collectively for the growth and progress of the party.
