The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has cautioned the All Progressives Congress (APC) against attempting to forcefully take over Rivers State, stating that such actions are against the will of the people.
In a statement by Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, the party accused the APC of attempting to subvert the Constitution regarding the vacation of seats by former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected from the party.
Ologunagba emphasized that according to Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended), the former lawmakers have lost their membership of the legislative house upon defection from the party.

He criticized the APC’s attempt to contest this provision through litigations and press statements, stating that the former lawmakers have vacated their seats and have no right to retain their membership of the House after decamping to another political party.
The statement warned the APC to refrain from attempting to take over Rivers State and urged them to accept the reality of the situation.
It emphasized that the quorum of the Rivers State House of Assembly will be determined by the number of remaining lawmakers until bye-elections are conducted to fill the vacant seats.
