Former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied claims of defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting he has no intention of joining the ruling party.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra State, made this clarification in a post on X, distancing himself from any association with an APC gathering where his name was mentioned.
He emphasized his commitment to issue-based politics, stating that he does not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or political manipulation.

“Let me make it unequivocally clear: I do not engage in toxic politics, blackmail, or any form of political manipulation. My name should not be associated with such narratives,” Obi stated.
He reaffirmed that both now and in the future, he remains unaffiliated with the APC, stressing that his political ideology is rooted in integrity, fairness, and competence-based assessments.
Addressing political aspirants, Obi maintained that candidates should be evaluated based on their competence, capacity, and compassion, which he described as essential qualities for leadership.
Speaking on Valentine Ozigbo, a politician who recently joined a new party, Obi insisted that all aspirants should be judged by their leadership abilities rather than party affiliations.
He further called for free and fair primaries across all political parties, urging stakeholders to uphold justice and reject toxic politics in the interest of democracy.
“By doing so, we will move closer to the new Nigeria we seek,” he concluded.
