The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi, braved the rain on Saturday to inaugurate the party’s campaign office ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State.
InfoStride News reports that Barrister Olumide Akpata is the party’s governorship candidate, with Alhaji Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as his running mate.
Peter Obi, alongside other party chieftains, defied the rain to inaugurate the campaign office.
They also participated in a road walk across major streets of Benin City and visited the Uwelu spare part market, where they received cheers from traders.
Additionally, Obi paid a courtesy visit to the Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, seeking royal blessings and prayers for the party’s success in the upcoming election.
At the palace, Obi expressed gratitude to the Oba for his fatherly role in society and emphasized the importance of free, fair, and credible elections for the nation’s greatness.
He believed that with the Oba’s prayers, the party could achieve significant progress as it commenced its political campaigns.
Olumide Akpata, the party’s governorship candidate, informed the monarch of his intent to begin his political campaigns and sought the Oba’s blessings.
He stressed that it would be improper to launch his campaign without first receiving the traditional ruler’s approval.
Akpata conveyed confidence in the party’s strength and vibrancy, asserting that the Labour Party is well-positioned to wrest power and deliver democratic dividends to the 18 local government areas of the state.
In response, the Oba of Benin welcomed Peter Obi, the governorship candidate, and other party chieftains to the palace, wishing them well in their political campaigns throughout the state.
