Ahead of the Edo State gubernatorial election on Saturday, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has vowed that voters will make it challenging for those planning to rig the election.
Speaking on Wednesday in Benin during the grand finale rally for the party’s candidate, Olumide Akpata, Obi emphasised that the era of election rigging in Nigeria is nearing its end.
The former Anambra State governor expressed his determination that the electorate would take firm control over the electoral process, stating that anyone attempting to manipulate the outcome of the September 21 polls would face severe consequences.

“Election rigging is coming to an end in this country. This time around, anyone who rigs the election, we will rig him.
Nigerians are suffering every day with hardship, and we cannot continue. That is what the Labour Party wants to change,” Obi declared.
He further urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a transparent, free, and credible election on Saturday.
Obi criticised state governors for frequently shifting responsibilities to the federal government, neglecting their citizens’ needs.
He assured voters that Akpata would not adopt such a leadership approach.
Calling for massive voter turnout on September 21, Obi urged Edo citizens to support Akpata and his running mate, Yusuf Kadiri, in their quest to lead the state.
In a show of support, Prof. Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, encouraged Labour Party supporters to leverage their numerical strength to secure victory for their candidate.
