In preparation for today’s 1pm swearing-in of newly appointed members of the All Progressives Congress’s National Working Committee (NWC), approximately 100 police officials have taken over the APC’s national secretariat.
And this is happening when demonstrators are storming the party headquarters to voice their displeasure with some newly elected NWC members.
The party secretariat is located on Blantyre Street in Wuse 2, Abuja, but the route has been blocked off by police.

Discontent within the party was sparked by Wednesday’s introduction of the new NWC members.
Similarly, Ikani Shuaibu Okolo (also of Kogi State) was named zonal organising secretary (North Central) by the ruling party, while Duro Meseko (also of Kogi State) was named deputy national publicity secretary (North Central Zone) to replace Yakubu Ajaka.
In the announcement, James Faleke, the candidate for Deputy national publicity secretary, defeated Yahaya Bello, the contender for Governor of Kogi State.
Bello, against this backdrop, showed up at the secretariat on Thursday morning.
The tension around the secretariat likely increased due to his presence.
Mary Alile Idele, a resident of Edo State, was named the party’s National Women Leader (South South Zone). Adams Oshiomhole’s candidate is named Idele, whereas Minister of Humanitarian Affairs Betta Edu’s candidature is named Dr. Stella Odey-Ekpo.
In Abia State, it was said that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s preferred candidate beat out those backed by the House Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and the State Chairman Ikechi Emenike.
