Former Minister of State for Labour and Employment Festus Keyamo has stated that the report from the European Union Observer Mission (EUOM) on the upcoming general elections in 2023 does not undermine the legitimacy of the process.
On Monday, Keyamo, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, made the revelation on his official Twitter account in response to the news story.
It has been less than a week since the European Union Observation Mission released a report in which it noted problems with the general election and offered suggestions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

However, conflicting responses have lagged behind the EU’s verdict.
A spokesperson for the now-defunct Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council, Keyamo, said that irregularities are present in every election throughout the world.
The question, he said, is whether or whether the alleged anomalies changed the outcome of the election.
He claims that the EU report does not reveal who won or lost an election.
He said that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration would be legitimate only if upheld by the country’s judicial system.
The extent to which the alleged ‘irregularities’ affected the outcome of the elections can only be determined by a forensic assessment of the entire process by the judiciary. Furthermore, the necessary legal framework has already been established.
The EU report is not and cannot be used as a means to determine an election’s outcome. Only ‘irregularities’ are reported and suggestions for fixing them in future elections are made. Therefore, the fanfare around that EU study is irrelevant to the question of whether or not the current administration is legitimate. The Judiciary has that authority or duty,” they wrote.
Announcing Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the victor in the presidential election was INEC.
But Peoples Democratic Party’s Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party’s Peter Obi are contesting Tinubu’s victory at the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.
