The 2023 Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has condemned the alleged use of the Department of State Services (DSS) to force Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, to step aside or resign.
Rhodes-Vivour described the invasion of the Assembly by DSS operatives as a major setback for democracy in Lagos.
InfoStride News earlier reported that operatives of the DSS and the Nigeria Police took over the Lagos Assembly complex on Monday amid an ongoing leadership crisis.

The turmoil followed the recent impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa while he was in the United States, leading to Meranda’s emergence as his replacement.
However, Obasa, upon his return, rejected the impeachment, arguing that due process was not followed.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Rhodes-Vivour decried the situation, stressing that lawmakers should owe their loyalty to the people, not political godfathers.
“What we saw today was an attempt to intimidate the Speaker into resigning through the use of armed men and threats of violence.
“Whoever is behind this must resolve the issue in a civilized manner because the State Assembly’s loyalty should be to its constituents, not any godfather,” he said.
