Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has affirmed his commitment to not govern the state from a position of submission, emphasizing that he will not rule on his knees.
His statement comes in the midst of an apparent power struggle with his predecessor and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the control of the state.
Speaking at the Ubima country home of former governor Sir Celestine Omehia in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Governor Fubara decried ongoing efforts to undermine the state’s integrity, condemning the negativity and bitterness prevalent in politics.

During his visit to offer condolences on the passing of Sir Omehia’s mother, Mrs. Ezinne Cecilia Omehia, Governor Fubara expressed solidarity with the former governor, stating, “I have come here with very few respected elders of the state, to come and support you and say to you that ‘we sorrow with you.”
He continued, “The most important thing is to show our concern and love.
Any human being who shows enmity to death, that person is not even normal. We also rejoice with you for a life lived well to fulfillment by Mama. We wish Mama a safe journey. Let her stay well where she has gone.”
Governor Fubara reiterated his resolve to govern Rivers State uprightly, saying, “I will not, I repeat, I will not govern our dear state on my knees. If that was the purpose, I will not do that.
I will stand to govern our dear state and stand continually on the side of right.”
