Ruud van Nistelrooy was sold by Sir Alex Ferguson
after he kicked Cristiano Ronaldo out of frustration in
Manchester United training, Guillem Balague has
revealed.
.
Van Nistelrooy left Old Trafford on uncertain terms
after weeks of speculation that he had fallen out with
then manager Ferguson, claims that the Dutch striker
frequently denied.
.
Balague reveals in his new book that Van Nistelrooy
had a training ground bust-up with a young Ronaldo
before being eventually sold to Real Madrid in 2006.
.
‘I can’t play with this guy. He doesn’t even cross the
ball,’ Van Nistelrooy would often shout in training,
Balague writes in a Telegraph serialisation of
Cristiano Ronaldo: The Biography.
.
‘I can’t make my runs because he’s not going to cross
the ball.’
.
In the same piece, Rio Ferdinand offers his opinion
on Van Nistelrooy’s unhappiness with Ronaldo,
believing the striker had become accustomed to
David Beckham’s crossing style and wasn’t a fan of
Ronaldo’s skills.
.
It was an opinion shared by former goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar: ‘I think Ruud was used to David
[Beckham] crossing the ball every time he had it,’
explained Edwin van der Sar.
.
‘David didn’t have pace to dribble and beat
opponents, so he had to do something else. Ronnie
had the pace and the tricks.’
.
‘They had a couple of arguments,’ revealed
Ferdinand. ‘Ruud Van Nistelrooy kicked him one time
and after that I kicked Ruud just to protect Ronnie a
little bit and Ruud swung a punch at me and he
missed.’
.
Van Nistelrooy was dropped following the incident
and never appeared for the club again.
.
Van Nistelrooy allegedly kicked Ronaldo in training
while at United together.
