Innocent Umaru Jabayang, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the recently concluded rerun election in Taraba State, has announced plans to challenge the results in court.
Jabayang contested the Jalingo/Yorro/Zing federal constituency by-election.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the outcome, Jabayang stated his intention to fight a legal battle against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and its candidate, Sadiq Tafida, whom INEC declared as the winner.

Addressing journalists in Jalingo, the state capital, Jabayang claimed that the election was marred by irregularities in many polling units in Jalingo.
He asserted, “I will tread every legitimate path to reclaim what I described as a stolen mandate.”
Jabayang’s legal representative has initiated legal proceedings, citing collusion between INEC and the PDP to manipulate the results.
He vowed to present concrete evidence to the judiciary to prove that his mandate was stolen and to pursue the matter until justice is served.
Allegations of irregularities include polling unit cancellations where Jabayang purportedly had a lead and instances of over-voting favoring the PDP candidate.
Jabayang is determined to defend the mandate he believes was rightfully bestowed upon him by the voters.
