Former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has said that the club should be looking to sign Ollie Watkins this summer. He recently revealed that Watkins represents a better bet for MUFC because of his EPL experience.
Speaking during an interview with the press, MUFC‘s preference for a younger Sesko is no different from when the club signed underwhelming Hojlund ahead of other experienced options.

According to him, there is a huge chance that Sesko will fail to hit the ground running like Watkins would do because he’ll have to adapt first.
Rene stated that the Slovenian definitely has lots of talent, but he is not the finished article.
“Manchester United’s bid for Benjamin Sesko is basically exactly what they did with Rasmus Hojlund. If he scores in the first three or four games and hits the ground running then he could be the answer for the club, but there’s a chance that won’t happen.
If you look at Hojlund, he joined Atalanta and performed well alongside the rest of the team and then joined United. The same can be said for Sesko – the Bundesliga is a very different league to the Premier League, so he’ll need to adapt. Has Sesko got potential? 100%, but he’s still young and developing and he isn’t the finished article,” he said.
Stressing that Watkins should’ve been the club’s target, the former manager noted that the Aston Villa striker is the hardworker MUFC needs in front of goal.
Rene concluded by saying that the fact that Sesko will cost a lot more than the England centre forward makes the deal even more questionable.
“I look at someone like Ollie Watkins who may be available. He’s a hard-working player with similar features to Sesko, except that he already has Premier League experience which is priceless.
I think Sesko would probably cost more than Watkins too,” he added.
