During a shootout with agents of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, known as Amotekun Corps, a suspected kidnapper was slain by a member of his gang.
Amotekun, Zero Tolerance to Crime
According to reports, the deceased, named as Funmi Adenuoye, was accidentally shot dead by his colleague, Kunle, while attempting to flee from Amotekun Corps troops pursuing them during a kidnapping operation.
The deceased and two of his gang members, Kunle and Tayo Ibrahim, were also said to have abducted a 58-year-old cement merchant, Alhaji Shakirudeen, in Ogun State on Wednesday.
According to a source, the three kidnappers drove their victim to Okitipupa, Ondo State, with the purpose of negotiating a ransom there.
The Amotekun Corps, on the other hand, struck and arrested Ibrahim, while Kunle fled.The Amotekun Corps was believed to be on the lookout for the kidnappers.
“Our trustworthy intelligence network picked that certain criminals are driving carelessly,” said Amotekun Commander Chief Adetunji Adeleye.
We didn’t know what was in the truck at the time, but their driving suggested concerns.
So we set up an ambush for them in Ondo State’s Okitipupa area and apprehended them.
“They engaged our men in a shootout and we were able to eventually secure the release of the victim, Alhaji Shakirudeen. We also arrested Tayo Ibrahim, who negotiated with the victim for a ransom of N10m while on the road.”
The Amotekun boss also revealed that two other suspects who used to provide basic necessities for kidnap victims and kidnappers in the forest were arrested in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of the state.
Confessing to the alleged crime, the suspect, Ibrahim, said they that they had negotiated with the victim to pay a ransom of N2m before they were confronted by Amotekun.
