Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has openly reaffirmed his friendship and political support for President Bola Tinubu, describing the Nigerian leader as a close ally of 22 years.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after visiting Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Soludo said he was unapologetic about standing by the president and backing his reform agenda.
The governor notably wore a cap bearing Tinubu’s insignia during the visit.
“These caps were produced even from the time the president visited Anambra State, and you saw all the billboards and materials proclaiming that Progressives are working together,” Soludo said.
He explained that his show of solidarity was rooted in his belief in a united progressive movement across party lines to advance Nigeria’s democracy and development.
“It’s a fundamental idea I believe in very strongly — that all political parties who profess progressivism should come together in a massive coalition to deepen our democratic process and drive the economic and socio-development of our country,” he added.
Soludo stressed that his relationship with Tinubu predates current political alignments and would not be abandoned for convenience.
“Talk about Tinubu, I have no apologies about it. President Tinubu is my friend and has been my friend for 22 years now and counting. You don’t deny a friend; I support him,” he declared.
The Anambra governor also praised Tinubu’s leadership style, particularly his economic policies and structural reforms.
“I’m impressed by the bold steps he has taken, especially in the area of the economy. The structural reforms are the right steps. I have said so severally — we only need to stay the course,” Soludo said.
