Former Abia State Governor and Senator representing Abia North, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has urged the South East to align with the national political mainstream to maximize its benefits.
Kalu made the appeal in a post on his official Facebook page, stressing the need for unity among All Progressives Congress (APC) members in Abia State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He revealed that President Bola Tinubu expressed disappointment over securing only 4% of the votes in Abia State during the 2023 presidential election, despite the strong presence of APC personalities in the state.

“The President scoring just 4% in the whole of Abia was worrisome, considering the calibre of party members we had during the polls,” Kalu stated.
The Abia North Senator explained that the stakeholders’ meeting he convened at his Abuja residence was aimed at strengthening party unity and mobilizing support for the APC in Abia, clarifying that Governor Alex Otti was not part of the discussions.
Kalu emphasized that he refrains from publicly criticizing his successors and believes that only the electorate has the power to judge the performance of leaders.
“For example, in 2019, when I joined the APC, President Buhari secured 68% in our constituency, but President Tinubu could only achieve 4% in the entire Abia in 2023. Even I could hardly believe it,” he said.
“The South East as a whole must be part of where other Nigerians are sitting,” Kalu added.
