The distribution of sacks of food to citizens of Kano State has been initiated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
He said that over 1060 individuals will be helped by the gesture, and that in addition to rice, millet, and corn, additional food products would also be handed to the needy.
Governor Yusuf insisted that the government had taken the necessary steps to distribute the food products fairly by forming a number of committees.
During the Kano launch of the agricultural intervention programme, he made the announcement.
He claims the move was made to ease the financial blow of ending fuel subsidies.
He warned that any government employee who messed up the food distribution would face consequences.
To ensure that the food aid reaches the most needy members of society, the governor added that special consideration would be given to those with impairments during the distribution process.
At the ceremony, farmers were given supplies meant to increase output in the state’s agricultural sector.
The distribution of food to the state’s most vulnerable and underprivileged citizens across the state’s 44 LGAs began in just four LGAs.
