Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido, has declared his support for the opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that the alliance is aimed at rescuing Nigeria’s democracy from collapse.
Lamido made the declaration while addressing supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during an empowerment programme held at the party’s headquarters in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital.
The former governor said he joined the ADC-led coalition, currently spearheaded by former Senate President David Mark, as part of a patriotic effort to restore democratic values allegedly eroded under the current All Progressives Congress (APC) administration.

“Our coming together under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by Senator David Mark is for the unity and progress of this country—not for selfish interests,” Lamido said.
He accused the APC-led government of consistently abusing power, suppressing opposition voices, and undermining democratic institutions, adding that Nigeria’s democratic stability is now under threat.
“Any patriotic Nigerian who truly has the nation at heart must come together and contribute meaningfully to unseat the present administration in order to save the country and Nigerians from worsening hardship,” he added.
Lamido emphasised that his involvement in the coalition is not about political ambition, but rather a moral duty to protect Nigeria’s future. He urged other political leaders to prioritise national interest over personal gain.
“Our duty now is to offer advice and provide guidance for the betterment of our country and a brighter future for all Nigerians,” he stated.
The former governor also praised PDP lawmakers from Jigawa State for what he described as their loyalty and consistency in promoting the party’s principles.
In his remarks at the event, the Senator representing Jigawa South-West Senatorial District, Mustapha Khabeeb, noted that over 3,000 constituents had benefited from the empowerment initiative, which included tools, startup funds, and training to support economic self-reliance.
Lamido’s open support for the ADC-led coalition adds to growing momentum behind the movement, which is seeking to unite various opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.
