In a significant development, thirteen inmates from Delta State correctional centres have been released following a thorough review of 1,477 warrants conducted over a three-week period.
Chief Judge Justice Theresa Diai, responsible for the decision, emphasized that the releases were based on the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions, who asserted that these individuals had no case to answer.
During the last quarter correctional visit at Ogwashi-uku Correctional Centre, 358 warrants were scrutinized, leading to the release of eight inmates charged with various offenses such as being members of an unlawful society, robbery, attempted murder, and conspiracy.

The freed individuals include Osita Dike, Obinna Blessed Onyekwelu, Jerome Sunday, Akighir Sekav, Claus Manasseh, Abdulrahman Idris, Albishamin Emmanuel, and Akilu Haladu.
At the Warri Correctional Centre, 502 warrants underwent review, resulting in the release of three inmates.
Similarly, the Sapele Correctional Centre witnessed the review of 167 warrants, leading to the release of one inmate.
However, no inmates were released from the Kwale Correctional Centre, where 282 warrants were examined.
At the Agbor Correctional Centre, 168 warrants were reviewed, resulting in the release of one inmate.
Justice Diai expressed her appreciation for the collaboration of the Director of Public Prosecutions and other participants in the review process, acknowledging their commendable performance during this significant exercise.
