President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the substantive Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA).
A statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, confirmed that the appointment takes effect from January 23, 2025, for an initial term of four years.
Aliyu has been serving as the acting Managing Director of the agency since March 2024. He brings over 20 years of experience in energy and organizational development across the private and public sectors.

His expertise spans leadership roles in Nigeria’s on-grid and off-grid power sectors, as well as water resources and transportation.
Before his appointment, Aliyu was the Head of the Project Management Unit at the Nigeria Electrification Project.
He also held positions as General Manager of Corporate Services, Projects, and Research, and Deputy General Manager at Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading PLC (NBET).
President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aliyu’s wealth of experience will drive the REA’s mission to provide reliable electricity to rural communities, aligning with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda on sustainable energy and power.
