President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described his journey to the presidency as a difficult one marked by numerous obstacles, attributing his emergence as Nigeria’s leader to perseverance and divine intervention.
Tinubu spoke on Friday at the 15th National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting of the All Progressives Congress, APC, held in Abuja.
Reflecting on events preceding the 2023 general election, the President said both his campaign and Nigerians faced severe economic and social challenges during the period.

He recalled that the country experienced food shortages, the currency redesign policy and widespread fuel scarcity, which led to long queues at petrol stations and deepened hardship for citizens.
“I faced obstacles on my path to the presidency,” Tinubu said, noting that many Nigerians struggled to afford even one meal per day at the time.
Despite the difficulties, the President said his emergence was made possible by God.
“God brought us here. I am a symbol of that God because, without Him, I wouldn’t be here,” he said.
Tinubu urged Nigerians to remain patient and grateful in the face of challenges, stressing the importance of faith and resilience.
He also called for unity, tolerance and collective responsibility in protecting Nigeria’s democracy.
“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy we have taken into our hands must not fail,” the President warned.
Emphasising inclusive leadership, Tinubu encouraged leaders and citizens alike to show compassion and create room for others to thrive.
He cautioned against the forceful imposition of authority in governance, reiterating his belief that leadership ultimately comes from God.
“God creates the opportunity for individuals, and if God says you will be there, you will be there,” he added.
