President Bola Tinubu has been encouraged by Laolu Akande, a former senior special adviser to former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, to publicly acknowledge that the election process in the country needs reform.
The late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua agreed there were problems with the election process that put him in power.
While appearing on Channel Television’s Sunrise Daily, Akande pointed out that INEC had assured Nigerians that the 2023 election results would be available on the IREV.

He said INEC was entitled to tell the PEPT judges, “Look, we are not compelled by the law to transmit the results” because the commitment wasn’t legally binding.
He pointed out that while INEC still needs to work on restoring confidence, the President should speak out against INEC’s performance.
“The President himself, at the end of the day, ought to also come out, much like President Yar’Adua did, to say, “Look, I recognize that we have to improve the election process, and I think much of what we should do in the end is to come back and look at the reforms.”
