Hon. Okey Mbah, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, was originally declared the victor in the Nkanu East seat in the House of Assembly election held on March 18. However, the tribunal hearing petitions challenging the results of that election has now ruled that Mbah did not win.
The tribunal ruled on Friday that the election procedure did not comply with the requirements of the Electoral Act of 2022, despite the fact that INEC had already declared Mbah the winner.
While delivering their verdict on the case filed by Labour Party candidate Surv. Okwudiri Nnaji, the three-man panel led by Honourable Justice Adie Attoe Onyebueke pronounced the election inconclusive.

It mandated a redo of voting in some precincts in the wards of Ugbawka and Owo.
The tribunal criticized INEC’s report on the grounds that the number of votes exceeded the number of registered and accredited voters in several locations.
On the other hand, it mandated that INEC, the electoral umpire, hold a new election in the affected polling places within 90 days.
