Nigeria’s Minister of Works, Senator Dave Umahi, has called on former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing growing support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu across the South-East.
Umahi made the appeal during a feature interview for an upcoming State House documentary to commemorate President Tinubu’s second year in office.
He revealed that all five South-East governors, regardless of party affiliation, are currently aligning with the Tinubu administration, praising the President for fostering equity and accelerating development in the region.

“The Igbo man is enterprising and wise. What Ndi Igbo want is fairness, and President Tinubu is delivering that,” Umahi stated. “Today, in Ebonyi State alone, there are at least four ongoing federal projects. That was unthinkable just a few years ago.”
Highlighting major projects such as the Second Niger Bridge and critical road corridors like Enugu-Port Harcourt and Enugu-Onitsha, Umahi noted that cries of marginalisation have significantly reduced under the current administration. He also emphasized that the South-East now holds a strategic position with his appointment as Minister of Works.
He disclosed that plans are underway for a regional summit to formally endorse President Tinubu for re-election in 2027. “Leadership is about the people. If someone else is doing what you would do for your people, support him. I call on my brother, Peter Obi, to join us in this journey,” Umahi said.
On infrastructure, Umahi confirmed that over 80% of Section 1 of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway has been completed. By December, tolling will begin on the stretch from Ahmadu Bello Way to Eleko Junction. The project features solar lighting, CCTV, and carbon credit advantages.
The minister also reported progress on other transformative projects, including the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway, the Trans-Saharan Trade Route, and the Ogun-Ondo-Niger Corridor—initiatives he described as vital to Nigeria’s economic integration and growth.
