Former Anambra State governorship aspirant, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, has officially resigned from the Labour Party (LP), fueling speculation about his next political move.
Ozigbo, who remains determined in his quest to govern Anambra State, cited his “unwavering commitment to a greater vision” for the state as the reason for his departure.
While he has not disclosed his next steps, sources suggest he may be headed to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to pursue his ambition.

In a statement he personally signed, the former Transnational Corporation (Transcorp) CEO confirmed his resignation at a State Executive Committee meeting of the Labour Party in Awka, Anambra State.
“A few moments ago, at a State Executive Committee meeting of the Labour Party in Awka, I formally submitted my resignation letter to my ward chairman,” he said.
He added that before making his decision public, he had informed LP’s national leader and 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as well as the party’s national chairman.
“At every defining moment in history, our choices shape the future we dream of.
Today, as I take a new step in my journey of service, I do so with an unshakable resolve, a clear vision, and the unwavering belief that Anambra’s best days are ahead of us,” he stated.
Ozigbo emphasized that his decision was not driven by personal ambition but by a desire to provide compassionate and transformative leadership for Anambra.
“Recent events have made one thing clear: the time has come for us to build something new, something bold, something that speaks to the hopes and aspirations of every Anambra son and daughter.
“That is why, after deep reflection and broad consultations, I have chosen to take a different path—one that is not about party lines but about our people, about progress, and about a movement that will bring real transformation to our great state,” he added.
Political analysts believe Ozigbo’s decision may be linked to concerns that Peter Obi, as the LP’s national leader, may not support his candidacy in the next Anambra governorship election.
Ozigbo had previously contested the governorship election under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2021, with Obi’s backing. He later defected to the Labour Party in 2022 alongside Obi and had remained a close ally until recent developments.
