Ex AS Roma midfielder, Ahmed Apimah Barusso has come out to say that Michael Essien inspired him to reach the elite stage.
Barusso recently revealed that his ex coaches always told him to take notes on Essien’s performance to become a better player and it helped him greatly.
According to him, he learnt a lot from the Ghanaian midfielder since Michael Essien was a very great player at the time and they played similar position.
He added that he had no choice but to see Essien as a role model and it benefited his career in the end.
His words, “I was always arguing with my coach at Rimini. He told me I had to break into the national team set up and be like Michael Essien,”
“Anytime Chelsea was playing that season, he would tell me to stop everything I was doing and watch the game and take notes on Essien’s performance.
”Michael Essien was a very great player at the time, and we played in a similar position.
”I had no choice but to watch because if I wasn’t able to answer his questions the following day, I’d be in trouble.”
