The Ogun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has pledged to work tirelessly to win back the state’s governorship.
On Tuesday, the Ogun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal ruled against the PDP’s petition against the APC’s Governor Dapo Abiodun. The PDP issued a statement condemning the ruling.
The disappointed party called the tribunal’s ruling a miscarriage of justice and said it would not accept the ruling because it was based only on technicalities.

At a press conference held by the PDP Chairman in Ogun, Sikirulahi Ogundele, the party made the argument that in a democracy, elections must be open, fair, and accountable.
The necessity to protect the integrity of our democracy from interference or anomalies was a major factor in our decision to initiate legal action on behalf of the people of Ogun State. We had faith that justice would be done and the truth would emerge from this legal procedure.
“Shockingly, rather than conducting a thorough and fair review of the evidence and charges offered in our petition, the Tribunal opted to focus on procedural minutiae.
Overvoting, voter disenfranchisement, voter harassment, and ballot box snatching were only some of the significant problems highlighted in our petition. These claims had some basis in fact, supported by interviews with eyewitnesses and other evidence. Ogundele has stated that the claims must be investigated thoroughly and unbiasedly to ensure that the integrity of the voting process is not compromised.
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP), the runner-up petitioner in this case, has guaranteed the people of Ogun State that it will continue to seek justice and defend the rights and hopes of its followers and the citizens of Ogun State despite the Tribunal’s ruling.
A more complete and unbiased review of the facts and claims, he continued, will take place in the appellate courts, therefore we have decided to pursue this matter there. We shall not rest until the truth is out in the open and the people’s will is respected. We can expect relief to arrive soon.
To quote one of our leaders: “We will fight hard to restore Power to the People of Ogun State.”
