Former Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has disclosed the reasons behind the removal of Prince Uche Secondus as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) prior to the 2023 general elections.
Secondus, an elder statesman and former Chairman of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC), held the position from 2017 until his suspension by the party in 2021.
Speaking in Port Harcourt on Saturday while addressing PDP members and supporters, Wike said Secondus was removed because he allegedly attempted to impose his cousin, Tele Ikuru, as the party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State.

“Why did we kick out Secondus? We kicked him out because he wanted to bring his cousin, Tele Ikuru, to run for governor,” Wike stated. “Get out, get out. Who are you?”
The former governor emphasized that he had no regrets over the decision. “We kicked him out, and I have no regrets. Some people say, ‘How can a ward chairman remove a national chairman?’ But no ward chairman removed him.
What the ward did was suspend him from the party. And when you’re suspended, can you hold that position? People don’t even understand the facts.”
Meanwhile, InfoStride News reports that Secondus recently commended Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State for standing firm against what he described as Wike’s intimidation.
Reacting to the outcome of the local government elections in Rivers State, Secondus said Fubara’s actions demonstrated true leadership, indicating a departure from Wike’s influence.
