Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike has given his approval to the revocation and withdrawal of residences that were sold to private individuals.
The homes that were allegedly sold by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) to the concerned individuals have been remodeled to accommodate new functions.
On Friday in Abuja, FCTA Director for Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, held a press conference to announce this move. Galadima made the announcement to the press.

Galadima recalled that the Federal Government had begun the monetisation scheme in 2005 due to the high costs associated with maintaining the dwellings.
According to him, the occupants of the homes were sold the properties so that they could continue to care for them after they were purchased.
He did say that some of the occupants went ahead and changed the houses from being used for residential purposes to being used for other purposes.
According to him, this has placed a significant load on the administration of the city, and he emphasized that the current administration felt it could not continue to condone the oddity in the situation.
The minister “has approved and directed that all owners of such properties should revert the use of the properties to its original and designated land use which is residential,” the official said. “It is on this note that the minister has approved and directed that all owners of such properties should revert the use of the properties to its original and designated land use.”
Galadima continued by saying, “If you do not comply with this directive by November 1st, the house will be considered to have been revoked.” We have been given till the end of October to return such people and individuals to the purposes they had prior to this change.
“The minister has also issued an order requiring owners of properties, particularly along major streets, who have converted their properties to other uses without approval to either revert their properties to their original use or pay contravention charges.”
He issued a warning that anyone who disregard this advice and ignore the instruction will only have themselves to blame for their actions.
