USMNT defender, Sergino Dest has come out to break down what went wrong for him at Barcelona. He recently accused Xavi of being dishonest in their discussions, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, he wouldn’t say he regrets his decision to join Barcelona years back, but Xavi was definitely not honest with him during his time at the club.

Dest added that they both had several conversations about his Barcelona future, but they all turned out to be lies.
His words, “I wouldn’t say I regret it, because in the end it wasn’t something that depended on me, but I don’t feel like I had the necessary opportunities with Xavi. I felt like I had to play within limits, that I wasn’t myself. I wanted to join the attack, because that’s my greatest virtue, but he asked me not to go up.
I don’t think he was honest with me. We had several conversations where he told me one thing but then I doubted whether it was really true. In the summer, before going on holiday, he told me ‘I’m counting on you, don’t read the press’. And as soon as I got back, he told me ‘you have to go’.
It was an incredible and wonderful experience. I will always carry Barca in my heart. It was a shame that it had to end like this because I felt I could still be useful to the club. But when a new coach arrives and has his ideas you can’t change them.
I agree, I arrived ‘flying’, I wanted to show what I can do, play… and things were going well for me on an individual level. But in the end I was new here, my team-mates didn’t know me… In the end I have a style in which I often take risks with the ball but here I was asked to play a different game. That made me lose some confidence in my decisions, doubts about whether you should be yourself or change your style and those doubts end up harming your performance.”
WOW.
Futbol Club Barcelona is a professional football club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, that competes in La Liga, the top flight of Spanish football.
Founded in 1899 by a group of Swiss, Catalan, German, and English footballers led by Joan Gamper, the club has become a symbol of Catalan culture and Catalanism, hence the motto “Més que un club” (“More than a club”). Unlike many other football clubs, the supporters own and operate Barcelona. It is the third-most valuable sports team in the world, worth $5.51 billion, and the world’s fourth richest football club in terms of revenue, with an annual turnover of €582.1 million.
The official Barcelona anthem is the “Cant del Barça”, written by Jaume Picas and Josep Maria Espinàs. Barcelona traditionally play in dark shades of blue and garnet stripes, hence nicknamed Blaugrana.
In March 2021, Lionel Messi overtook Xavi’s record of 767 games played for the club, and presently has made 778 official appearances in all competitions, while also holding the record for the most appearances in La Liga matches for Barcelona, with 520.
