Guinea skipper, Kamil Zayatte is confident his side will come tops against the Cranes of Uganda in their Group E clash on Wednesday at the Namboole stadium.
Guinea top the group with three points following a 2-1 win over Togo in their opening game and Zayatte says they are eager to maintain the momentum.
“We are here to win the game. We started well against Togo and we need to continue with the form we showed,” he poured out to Cafonline.com after his team’s training session at Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
On the chances of the Syli Nationale, the England-based defender admitted he has little knowledge of the Cranes, who snatched a popint of Ghana’s Black Stars in their opening match away in Kumasi.
“We’ve played against Ghana and we know Togo but we don’t know much about Uganda. But we will all teams in the same way,” he said.
Zayate however admitted that Uganda is a strong team based on their performance against the four-time champions in Ghana’s second largest city, Kumasi.
“We didn’t watch the game because we were traveling but we know they are good and strong team. However, we shall do everything possible to win the game.”
Their training in Kampala was characterized by a downpour making the pitch unplayable.
Meanwhile Uganda midfielder Tony Mawejje is optimistic they will continue with the current form to collect maximum points against the West Africans.
“We are confident and are working as a team. It’s not a one-man show like we showed in Kumasi and I believe we shall be ready to execute the instructions as we did in Kumasi.”
Mawejje, author of the Cranes goal in their one-all draw against the Black Stars said: “Guinea is no new team to us. We are home and it gives us an advantage. Remember, we need to keep our 100-per cent home record intact. With all our fans, it’s going to be a great atmosphere in Kampala because we need maximum points in our back yard”.
The Cranes have been boosted by the return of Geoffrey Massa and Brian Majwega who missed the first game against Ghana and likely starters for the Guinea clash.
Togo will host neighbours Ghana in the other Group E match at the Stade de Kegue in Lome.
