The Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Abia State has officially kicked off its campaign ahead of the upcoming chairmanship and councillorship elections scheduled for Saturday, November 2.
The party’s state chairman, Chris Onukwue, addressed supporters at the campaign flag-off held at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba.
Onukwue urged candidates to extend their outreach to every part of the state, emphasizing the importance of grassroots engagement.

“We are determined to win these elections. I call on all our candidates across the 17 LGAs to work closely with the party leadership to secure victory at the polls,” Onukwue said.
In their responses, key ZLP chairmanship candidates, including Chinedu Ekeke from Isuikwuato, a former Deputy Chief of Staff to Governor Alex Otti, and Smart Ihuoma from Umuahia North, vowed to take their campaigns to every corner of the state. They expressed confidence in their ability to win the elections and promised to offer effective leadership at the grassroots level if elected.
“We are committed to representing a new face of leadership when we assume office on November 2,” the candidates assured.
The ruling Labour Party (LP) in Abia is currently embroiled in a leadership crisis, with factions led by Emmanuel Otti and Ndubueze vying for control.
Amid this turmoil, posters of ZLP candidates have appeared across Umuahia and Aba, signaling a strong push by the party to gain an edge in the elections.
Meanwhile, Governor Alex Otti, speaking in Aba on Thursday during the commissioning of projects executed by the Aba South LGA chairman, emphasized that Abians would vote for candidates based on merit, not party affiliation.
“As I’ve always known, the people of Abia vote for the right candidates, regardless of their platforms,” Otti told the crowd.
