Barring unforeseen circumstances, the 107km long Ilara-Ijoun-Eggua-Ilase road which links Yewa South, Yewa North, Imeko Afon and Ipokia Local Government Areas in Ogun West Senatorial District of Ogun State would be completed before the end of next year.
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Arc. Olamilekan Adegbite who gave this assurance today during a media chat in Abeokuta stated that contrary to insinuation in some quarters, the Senator Ibikunle Amosun led administration does not intend to abandon the project it considers as one of its most people oriented and economic inspiring infrastructural project.
“Like every other road that we are constructing, government will not abandon the 107 km long road, as a matter of fact, all things being equal, we intend to complete it before the end of next year. It is one road that this government attaches a lot of importance to, it is one of our most people oriented and economic inspiring infrastructural project”, the Commissioner explained.
Adegbite however added that the project which commenced in January 2013 would be delivered in phases, justifying that this was a faster and effective method of completion. He posited that doing this will also make the people have an idea of what the road would eventually look like.
He disclosed that already, the Ilara axis had been completed, revealing that following a directive of the governor, the Alagbe axis which was not initially part of the project had been included. With this development, Adegbite said that the road would be extended to the border side.
Explaining the rationale behind the ongoing soil excavation on a portion of the road after Oja Odan, the Commissioner revealed that the process was being done to replace the underneath soil found unsuitable with better soil materials to ensure longevity.
“Soil excavation is being carried out at Oja Odan axis of the road because the soil there cannot support the type of road we want to construct. This is done to ensure durability of the road”, Adegbite stated.
