A series of bomb explosions have rocked the Federal College of Education, Kano, killing scores and leaving several others injured, eyewitnesses and residents have said.
The explosions, which occurred at the school located in the Kabuga area of Kano State, was followed by sporadic gunshots at about 1.30pm.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspected Boko Haram gunmen stormed the institution Wednesday killing a security guard stationed at the main entrance before throwing IEDs at students and shot those who tried to escape.
Security officials have already cordoned off the area as emergency workers have mobilised to the scene.

The dead include 13 students and two of the armed attackers. About 47 people were also injured in the attack, the police said.
According to Mr. Shinaba, the attackers were shot dead by security agents during a gun fight.
Explains to journalists at the school what happened, the police boss said: “What happened was that we detected some suspicious movements of some people and we trailed them only for them to open fire around the school resulting to them gaining entry into the premises and started throwing bombs”.
He said two AK47 rifles have been recovered.
Meanwhile, security has been beefed up in Kano metropolis as armed soldiers patrol the streets, taking positions at strategic locations.
