Fans Blast 25 Minutes Jay Z, Beyonce Performance

BeyonceFans couldn’t get enough of Beyoncé’s set at Sunday’s Global Citizen Festival in South Africa. Literally.

She and Jay-Z headlined the Mandela 100 event in Johannesburg, which commemorated what would have been President Nelson Mandela’s 100th birthday on July 18, 2018. Those watching the show online, which also included appearances by Oprah Winfrey, Usher, Trevor Noah and Naomi Campbell, were pumped for the promised two hour-plus set. But disbelief ensued when the live stream cut off 25 minutes in, as previously announced.

“Can we see 25 minutes 1 second of the livestream??” @ashmcd325 joked on Twitter, with a GIF showing a remote being clicked off.

The couple’s fans were left consoling themselves with repeats of Ed Sheeran’s and Pharrell’s performances earlier in the day.

Organizers headed off the fury on Twitter, forewarning viewers that the party would be over within a half-hour. “Beyonce & Jay-Z’s full show remains exclusive to those who earned their tickets. i.e. Those at the stadium,” SABC1 TV tweeted.

Last week, Beyonce wrote a powerful open letter to Mandela, who died in 2013 at age 95.

“Your vision for dignity, for human rights, for peace and a South Africa free of racism and apartheid, allows us all to turn dreams into reality,” she posted on her website. “I promise you that we have made your dreams our own. Your work and your sacrifices were not in vain.

“I will cherish every moment shared in your presence and use the lessons learned from you as fuel to stir positive ideas and solutions.”
