The All Progressives Congress (APC) has received 11 politicians described as former candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) into its fold ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defectors were received by the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja on Friday.

The group comprised politicians from Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Plateau and Sokoto states. They were led by Dr Princess Aslam Aliyu, while Professor Murtala Yusuf represented the ADC contingent and Mohammed Rabiu led the NDC group from Kaduna State.
The APC National Secretary, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, and the National Woman Leader, Dr Mary Alile-Idele, were also present at the reception.
Aliyu, founder of Babatinuubu Fisabililai 2027, said the latest development followed the return of 12 ADC State House of Assembly candidates to the ruling party about two weeks earlier.
She described the defections as a sign of growing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Welcoming the new members, Yilwatda said their decision would strengthen the APC’s mobilisation efforts and support the party’s objectives of national unity and economic development.
He also defended the Tinubu administration’s infrastructure projects, particularly in northern Nigeria, citing road and railway construction as evidence of the government’s commitment to development across the country.
Basiru, in his remarks, urged the defectors to remain committed to the party, describing the 2027 elections as a contest over Nigeria’s future direction.
He also defended the administration’s economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, and highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund as one of the government’s interventions in the education sector.
The development comes as political parties intensify preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with defections and alliances shaping the emerging political landscape.
