A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Dino Melaye, has said discussions among opposition political actors on forming a coalition ahead of the 2027 general election are still ongoing.
Melaye made this known in a post on his verified X account on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, while commenting on efforts by opposition groups to build a common platform ahead of the presidential election.

He stated that the coalition discussions were progressing and called for an electoral change in the 2027 presidential contest.
His comments come amid renewed consultations among opposition parties and political figures seeking to coordinate their activities ahead of the election.
The G100 initiative has been one of the platforms involved in the coalition discussions. The group has been working towards developing a framework for cooperation among opposition parties and political actors.
Earlier discussions proposed a common presidential candidate and a four-year transition programme, with working groups tasked with developing frameworks for opposition unity and a roadmap for selecting a joint candidate.
The coalition discussions have involved representatives and political actors from different opposition platforms, although some prominent presidential contenders have yet to publicly commit to a common arrangement.
Melaye’s latest comment comes as opposition figures continue consultations over how to coordinate their political structures and determine a possible common strategy for the 2027 election.
The former senator’s statement adds to the growing public discussion over whether Nigeria’s opposition parties can reach an agreement on a common platform and presidential candidate before the election.
